Everywhere, Nowhere
Hello I just wanted to share a couple pictures of my gar I've had him for a while now and he's a great fish however, I've never been able to figure out what kind of gar he exactly is haha so any help is appreciated.

It's a florida gar. I see an oscar a pleco and a jardini for tankmates, none of which are recommended gar tankmates. The polys are great gar tankmates, but are also a risk with that pleco.

^Thanks a lot for the I.D. that's crazy they all get along really well, I've had them together since they were all juveniles so I'm sure that's why but even during feeding time besides the occasional chase for the last piece of shrimp haha they're really friendly with each other

yeah thats a florida. prepare for that thing to get big i catch 4-5 footers when i go fishing. haha gonna be a sick monster fish someday

As a few previous posters have said, it's a Florida gar, and a nice looking one at that. I wouldn't expect it to get much larger than 18" to 22" since it's a captive gar; gars rarely, if ever, reach their full size in captivity unlike in the wild where they can get quite large.

Also, you may want to remove your location from your info...

Thank-you very much for the heads up! after reading this I looked up some info and had no idea they weren't allowed here. I purchased from a lfs some years ago at like 3in. haha whoops

Allowed where? The magical land of Everywhere, Nowhere? ;)

I'm usually pretty quick on checking locations in order to keep people out of trouble.

florida gars will only reach 2 1/2 ft max in a tank. now in the wild thats a different story. i have one thats about 10-11 inches now. they are awsome fish!

seen more or less true 3' easy possible with good water n lots of space tho...
