mine will spawn every month unless they are guarding existing fry, on the odd occassions where i haven't moved the other adults out of the tank in time and the pair have spawned, the fry will all get eaten by the others but its always spot on a month later that the pair spawn again.
the weird thing i have found with them is that they will not spawn if its just the pair on their own, add another red head or 2 and they spawn, then i have to watch closely and remove the others in time.

I have 4 pairs.
I have 3 pairs in a 125 gallon 72" long tank with some sand. I divided one pair to about a qrtr of the tank when they had fry. the male seemed to hold them more then the female? After about 3-4 days no more fry!?
I have had them spawn before in the tank but no fry. I removed some other fishes & one pair for more room in the tank for spawning etc.
What is the trick to get viable fry? Should I strip them from the parents or let them try again or more til they get it right? Or should I just give the pair the entire 125 gallon tank?
Any help would be appreciated.
