Don't buy silver. It's a genetic defect that is caused by a recessive allele that masks the rich colors that the breed standard calls for. In short, if you go out of your way to buy a silver from a breeder that produces them, you're actively encouraging the people who are hurting the breed. As a person who loves this breed with all of my heart, I beg you to carefully consider what dog you are going to buy.

Interesting, I did not know this... I do know of a breeder that puts out allot of silvers... but I did not get gunner from them, all his litter mates were white and one was kind of a "silver"

Here is a picture of gunner's brother (the "silver") that I almost got instead of gunner... I couldn't get him because the breeders daughter wanted this one. oh well i am still very happy with gunner
