My Ghetto Stand....haha

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah P_power you need some braces other wise your stand could twist, therefore snapping the screws, or it could just snap the screws with the weight. Also as it looks like to legs are fairly high, you may want to put a back 2x2 on the top and screw it into the wall other wise you could have alot of water, dead fish and glass olover your floor. but good job no the less ;)

Hahaha, thankz guyz. I was thinkin of bracing it...but wasn't sure if i needed to since they are only 27gal tankz. Will put some more bracing around the bottom of the tank ledges, maybe a few cross beams...haha.

Looks like screws holding the shelves on. I would add 2 SS carraige bolts/nuts/lg washers to each corner to strengthen each attachment point. Then, either anchor the rear posts to wall studs or add bracing to prevent twisting. It may only be 2 27gal tank but, it'll be over 500lbs of weight being held up.

Eh, I trust screws more than nails...haha. Put in one carriage bolt per corner plus the screws that were already in there. Put some bracing at the bottom for stabilty and to prevent it from twisting. Got the tankz up and running...lookin good so far. Was a pain in the butt gettin the siphon tubes to suck the right amount of water so it wouldn't make a suckin noise and still be able to drain enough to keep the pump under water..haha. Put in some sand last night, the water is still pretty cloudy. I might hook up my Filstar XP I to the tank to help with filtration and clearnin up the water. Got some danios in there...haha...10 to be exact to get the cycle started.

his stand looks like a well built machine compared to what u see at my lfs... its funny as hell... they have 3 rows of stands with tanks on each side and the 2x4s are bowed so bad its rediculous... all there tanks rest on are the ends.. u can litterally stick ur fingers under the middles of all there tanks.. i cant believe there not cracking left and right.. they have one tank were its touching the stand on 2 corners and u can rock it back and forth on the other 2 corners.. :screwy: :screwy:
