I recently got 10 ghost shrimp to try to get to breed. They have a 10 gallon with a heater, air stone, sand and some rocks. I got them a little plant to clean and they seem to be doing really good so far. I should be expecting a some fry in a few weeks hopefully!

thats cool. do you have any salt in there?

uh no.. do i need some?

i have read that ghost shrimp can have babys in fresh but they wont survive unless it has salt. but im no shrimp expert :)

That being said, supposedly there are 2 types of ghost shrimp sold. One that breeds in salt and one that can breed in freshwater. I have not bred ghosts before, but have seen others breed ghosties in FW alone.

thats cool, and the fry survived too?

Very nice setup! I don't think they need salt, judging by your very clear pictures your shrimp are "probably" the same species as mine. (Based on the red bands around their antenna and front claws). I've bred them before/still currently breeding them in full fresh water so I don't think salt is necessary.

Here's a link, if you want to have a look at my setup/guide on Ghost Shrimp breeding, on MFK.

Here's another link, not on MFK, pointing out why I think the red band shows that we have the same kind of shrimp.

Good luck with your breeding ^_^

Probably not gonna add any salt because i do daily water changes and i dont want to measure tiny amounts of salt unless i have too.

Thanks for all the comment, i really appreciate them!

Bad news thou... I have had a few die now. Im down to 6. There are some that are pink and some that are gray? Any idea why there dieing?

They all lived the first 3 days then a random die off last night. I feed them crushed pellets and crushed flakes. I change 1\4 water everyday. I keep the temp at 76 degress. The air stone is working properly. The tank was cycled. Everything seems right. Any ideas?
