My gold nugget disappeared.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
that is the problem of having places for fish to hide in - they hide in them ^^

but in your case it seems more extreme lol try a simple hiding place where you can still see him in it

Eh, i like having the big rockscape. And if he wants to hide, thats cool, as long as he pops out every now and then.

I'm more concerned about him eating. Could it be that he is surviving off of uneaten food? Should i try a different vegetable? I just want to make sure the little guy is getting enough to eat!

i find my plecos love sweet potato, will come out from whereever, overnight that it, for some sweet potato. dont cook it, just clean it well, and wedge it out in the open or something.

dont worry homie... also have gold nugget, king tiger, rubber lip and others...very rare 2 c one...actually only time i c 1 is when i turn off lights on tank, wait couple minutes and get my flashlight and start searching...then ill c 1..but ive done what u wanna do and take everything out of tank 2 look....lol

wait 3-4 weeks that's how long it takes for most plecos to feel comfortable. Minimize your moving of things in this time don't gravel vacuum just water change.
Gold nuggets are the bad *** of the pleco family. They are not shy. They will come right up to you and pick a fight. i have the scars on my hand to prove it.... They are very fragile tho and often die with no reason. Just leave him alone try that pellets in the zuchinni thing and make him feel at home.

chances are he is eating the growth of the rocks. Their is an almost invisible layer of protein rich slime that builds up on aquariums. He is doing exactly what gold nuggets do in the wild cling to a rock and eat the gunk off it.

I picked up one for my g/fs tank and he did the same thing We saw him for about a week and then nothing. EVER. we assume he died. but still never found a body.

The fish law of antimatter: Fish are the on;y living thing capable of hiding their own body AFTER death. On a good day, Sherlock Holmes could never find a guppy in a 1 gallon bowl. I personnally had a dead zebra danio BURY ITSELF under the gravel under an ornament

all animals hide themselves when they are close to death

for the op, add a few ghost tubes:naughty:

hey, just gave my plecos some yellow squash, the kind they sell next to zuchini, and they love that way more then green zuchini and hearty green lettuce combined.

I'll have to try the yellow squash and the sweet potato. I put in regular potato last night and it seemed untouched.

The funny thing is that when i set up this tank, i added about 30 neon tetras along with my frontosa. I realized that the frontosa would eventually get big enough to eat the tetras, but in the meantime i would have a vibrant school of tetras that would be pretty impossible for my 1" frontosa to eat.

However, the school of 30 is now down to... 3. I have found no bodies. They all swim and look very healthy during the day, and one or two disappear every night. The only semi-large thing in the tank is the 3" or so gold nugget. Could it be that my gold nugget is passing up my veggies and eating my tetras?! If he is... thats cool, at least he is eating!
