My Golden Project

Wow!!…I can't believe that fish ended up being a female. Check that one off as just another challenge when trying to breed various strains of flower horns. As long as you have the tank space to try and breed "her" then you are ok. Its happened to me where I was looking for a female to complete my breeding project and ended up with a male and didn't have a space for him. Had to trade him to a LFS for a big financial loss. Im excited to see the pearly, koky, and hopefully fertile male you already have an eye on. Keep the updates coming!

Here's that pearly, koky ZZ or KML I found to continue this project...proven fertile too. He's in a divided tank with the faded koky female and each day I raise the divider so he can court her but each time, the two are so fixated in beating each other up...normal when trying to pair these guys up but I decided to do something to help them out a little. Before they got a chance to liplock or bite each other, I used the plastic slit that goes on the lid of your aquarium that seals off any openings to separate them from hurting each other. It was the closest thing within reach so that's why I used it. This went on for a good 20 minutes.

The situation finally turned when the pair started attacking the plastic slit together...this eventually tired them enough to finally call it quits. They finally stopped fighting but not without some battle scars as you can see in the pics. Her light color doesn't show it but she got the worse of the two...she's a tough nugget though. Will continue to keep my eyes on them for sure...don't want to lose this prized female.

Update on this latest pair. Her head is popping out & tube is dropping...ever so slowly. Been pumping her up by feeding her every chance I get and now her appetite has slowed so it's getting close. Pic shows his tube down & ready to go...at the moment, his is sticking out further than her's. Patience is key when breeding...definitely can't rush them.

The female died from injuries during her final spawn with this midas...but got a nice batch from her before she passed. Growing out about 25 with some already fading and worm pearls showing on the face like mom. They're about 2+ inches now....lets see how they turn out.
