He is about 3-4" long and has been in the tank for about 3 weeks to a month. He is getting along with all tank mates and he hasn't been picked on and hasn't been picking on anyone else. He eats krill, blood worms and a clam on a half shell every day for his teeth. The weird thing is he changes from healthy looking and bright to dark, blurry and sickly almost instantly. He does this multiple times per day. Ill be looking at him, he will look fine, and I turn around to do something and come back a minute later and he will look terrible. Anyone have any ideas? The only thing I can think of is he doesn't have many hiding spots. Do GSP need a lot of places to hide? I didn't think they were big on hiding but I could be very wrong. Thanks guys.

:iagree::iagree:

mine do the same but mine mostly lok great when eating and mine have plenty of places to hide with no problem and i was told it could be the S.G levels if they are to low the fish will be olive colored but thats only what people say.

Please describe your system.
Tank size?
Tank mates?
Parameters: ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, SG?

Puffers need a complex, tank heavily decorated, to keep them from getting bored. Here's mine:

He is in a 55gallon with a small arowana, two small bichirs and two baby peacock bass. Yesterday we put quite a few more decorations in the tank because maybe he was bored like you said. But he doesn't even want to explore them? He just stays facing the glass. I tested the water yesterday and it was fine. We have the test kit where we fill the test tubes with water, add drops, and then compare the color to the card. So I dont remember the exact numbers but everything was in the "normal" range. He is in freshwater obviously but we add a a little salt every day just because it wont hurt anything and GSP will like that.

well GSP's are brakish water fish as juvies then as they mature to fullmarine so your puffer probally needs SEA SALT in his water that is the only way it will live as it grows . Sorry for the news

Well the guy i got him from and a couple other people have told me that they do fine in freshwater. But thanks anyways
