My GTs laid eggs!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yeah since its their first time i would let them work things out, most likely they will eat the eggs as that happens a lot the first time, there is a bit of a learning curve but once they have tried a few times they should be good at it, if you really want to remove the fry you can suck them out using a hose when they have been free-swimming for a couple days, feed them either crushed up flakes or hikari first bites (mix these into some tank water in a small cup/spoon first and then pour it into the tank so that it sinks, if you just put the dry stuff into the tank it will take forever to sink and usually fry that young wont come to the top, just pour the mixture right over their little school) also to keep them from getting sucked up by the filter you can put a piece of filter sponge or something over the intake part

what is in their with them?

Thanks a lot for the advice

i agree, most cichlids are great parents. After the first few batches they'll get the hang of parenthood. (Once they know what their doing) i would recommend leaving the fry in the tank because the parents will take care of them. They'll actually probably grow faster and be healthier.

will do

will some eggs become a lighter color than others? when i look at my eggs some are dark color and others are white looking.

the white looking ones are ones that have gotten fungus on them, the parents should know to eat these ones so that they dont continue to effect the others, the darker colored ones are the fertilized "alive" ones

there always will be at least a few that this happens to, usually they are the unfertilized eggs, as long as the parents do their job the rest should be fine
