my gts laid eggs

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My GT's breed alot and the only thing I had a problem with besides predation was the fry getting sucked up in the filter when they start to swim near it. Some people claim this never happens and I don't know what kind of fish they have but I've had to save fry from my canister filter every time(that would be four times). If you're thinking of moving the eggs Don't, for some reason the female usually moves them one by one to a differant (maybe safer) place I use Hikari first bites for food but since it's more like the consistancy of powder I actually have to suspend a tea ball full to the bottom of the tank so they can get it. The reason for this is they won't leave the bottom for at least a week after hatching, that is until their mother starts leading them around. I forget when, but as soon as they will take it, switch to brine shrimp, they love that stuff. you should have about four day's until they hatch, sorry if it's too much info and good luck!

By the way I never came up with a solution to fry getting sucked up. sorry, maybe another topic. Thats alot of egg's. Sweet!

hi blue phantom
thanks for the info. i can already see black specs in the eggs. im planning to move the fry once fry swimming, to another tank. i didnt think about the filter problem yet. i have a submerged filter and the eggs are close to it. i have to make a plan.IMG_0661.jpg

i just bought a 3 foot tank and set it up with filter and heater. will add some brine shrimp eggs tomorrow. hopefully i can add the fry by friday or saturday

I can't find most of the eggs now. I saw them hatching earlier, now only clear looking balls everywhere. The female is still guarding. Do ul think they all eaten?

i just found the babies. The female moved the babies. they are still attached to like a sac. how long do they take to become free swimming?

I've had them stuck to their eggs for a couple of days, no more than that though. By the way my GT's eggs are at exactly the same stage, just thought that was kinda cool! oops didn't mention the female moves them...surprise.
