Nothing wrong with taking the 4 or 5lbers. Im lost in this thread. Is this really a thread to complaine about someone enjoying fresh caught fish? :nilly:

Nothing wrong with taking the 4 or 5 pounders? Let us respectfully agree to disagree shall we? In my humble opinion, there is everything wrong with that, and as I respect your right to say what you believe, I would hope you respect my rights.

And if people choose to flame this thread in the end, then go right ahead if it makes you feel better. It wont make me feel better seeing five 5 pound animals die, when two or three or four 1/2 pound animals would have been fine. sorry.

there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy a fresh meal of fish than to kill off large egg-laying females that keep the populations up for years to come

I know the feeling your are describing in this thread, many times I have witnessed fish I caught year after year being eaten by a douchebag that just dumps his waste in the water and throws the fish alive in a bucket. In the beginning I would smalltalk and try to convince this people that I know the fish for years and that their killing destroys the enjoyment of others, but they just don't care. Last week A caught an 11lbs Zander that I took home to eat,It was the first fish I ever killed for eating that was wounded or badly hooked, and it feeled bad inside of me and I will probably never take a fish out without having a reason for it again.

But when you put your feeling to the side and take a realistic view to the way fishing is starting to change,I think we have a bright future for C&R fishermen as more turn op the become C&R fishermen each day and simply enjoy beeing out in nature without the need of eating the fish.
And personally I'm against a law that makes it illegal to keep fish you caught, because then there is no reason to fish anymore, and soon fishing will be banned.

:) i like this thread. So caring. I never eat fish unless it is really big and isn't breeding as far as i know. I am always thinking. Should i go online and find how to sex a certain type of rare fish in the internet then catch a female and a male that is fairly young. Put them together in a big tank with natural wood rocks and stuff u find in the lake. Breed them and then release them in the wild to try to bring up the population a little bit. Always thought of this and tried it a couple times and was happy. I rarely fish but i still love it so i try as much as possible. Really hard though

The guy is saying that he saw a fisher man catch 2 big fish that was breeding and was taking it home. It is sad.

As a fellow angler myself all i can say is , turn the other way. You have to change how you see things as an angler, for example, when i first started fishing the 3rd fish i cought died on me, as i love and keep fish this was initialy a sad experiance but, TIF ( this is fishing) there will unfortantely be times when a fish is too tired from a fight or swollows a hook and will inevidably die, its sad but its part of the spot and one has to come to terms with it, same goes for people breaking the law, using nets or catching and killing big ole fish, what can you do? nothing really.

All you can do is lead by example and practice catch and release. I too fish at a lake that has no one come to check permits or to generaly walk around and check people are doing the right thing, it buggs me that people throw their trash evryware and that there are fire pits even though the sighns state that no camping is allowd, no fires etc. you just have to move on and get over it or it will ruin the sport for you.

Cheers-

Dazz
