Hopefully I'm getting a Powerhead pump AND an air pump with an airstone if mother will sacrifice a socket. so all levels of the tank will havw areation, the guy at the LFS is great I paid for the tank at the LFS 30mmins ago will be expecting delivery later today. So the powerhead will do the top and middle sectors and airstome will do the lower and middle. Exelent sorted then, Oh yeah had a little impulse buy om a guppy lol.
 
Dude, what kind of crabs you thinkin about......some of the little buggers like to climb air lines...or anything they can stick onto, ive often found a few dried up claws and stuff under my bed!

just got it in today with all the basics I WILL upgrade gradually.
P.S how the hell do I use the UGF? I only know it is powered by the powerhead areation system.

hmmmmm I did resize it on imageshack sorry its so big

anyway there is the tank, heater, powerhead, thermometer, a big tube for the UGF, and a white circular plate which I think is the UGF, the tube fits onto it anyway.

Woah.. re-size that thing down! I just use Microsoft Image Editor..

I would ditch the UGF.. You were going to do live plants right? (Long Jungle val looks good in a hex).. That way you could go with a nice sand substrate for the plants..

So what other filter do you reccomend? gotta be fairly cheap.And its not the filter its actually the areation. Thye power head acts as the filter.
 
Ohh.. You don't have another filter? Hmm, you might as well utilize the powerhead and UGF then.. I was thinking a small canister or HOB filter would work well..

so the powerhead goes at the top of the tube the white thing at the bottom =under the gravel, there is a 3" substrate covering so then the stuf that is being filtered out goes down the tube into thr gravel and the crap gets degraded by the bacteria in the substrate is that it? I am so confused :confused: the bloody powerhead has a tu

The powerhead will suck (unless its a reverse flow powerhead) water up the tube. So basically, water goes through the subtrate to the ugf then up the lift tube and out the powerhead. Your media for bacteria becomes the subtrate. There are reverse flow system which would reverse the process so that ditrius is not trapped in to your filter causing it to clog. And oxygenation happens on the surface of the water not in the water. What the airstones does is produce bubbles which agitates the surface of the water which would make it interact with the air and therefore oxiginate the water.
