my house water

If you can drink it then it is allright for fish. If you use it and it kills your fish then your well has serious problems. And you need to contact a goverment official and maybe fbi and cia agents.-----i would use it

well here is the test i am doing do see if it works. i have a 5 gallon tank with a undergravel filter i put the water in the tank with a water sprayer off of my sink and u can hardly smell the rotten eggs. so then i added some sea chem prime in it and i put enough to take care of 10 gallons or so. after a few days with this tank is running i am going to run another test on the water and put a cheap fish and it and see if it will live for 2 weeks. if the fish lives for 2 weeks then i will beable to use my house water. i will keep u guys updated on the test run. MY LOCAL FISH STORE SAID IF U HAVE THAT ROTTEN EGG SMELL FROM YOUR WATER USE SOME KIND OF SPRAYER. SO IF U ARE USING A GARDEN HOSE JUST GET A FOG SPRAY NOZZLE AND THE WATER WONT SMELL AS BAD

that's because with the extra agitation the sulphur will eventually turn into a gas and outgas. A lot of well water has a sulphur smell, as you water will take on whatever rocks are that hold the reservoir together.

The spraying isn't a bad idea, but what's causing the smell shouldn't hurt the fish. If it gives you piece of mind, drop an airstone in for a while after you do a w/c

You can always get your water tested at local health department for a small fee OR have a company that installs water conditioner equipment (softeners & filters) come out. They usually don't charge for a consultation and will do an iron/hardness test for free.

I use well water for my African cichlids with no problem. The water has an iron problem, smells funky & turns the sinks orange. I am using a whole house water softener & sediment filter but bypass it for the fish tanks & outdoor water.

I will add in my $0.02 here as I have been around wellwater my entire life. There are two different reasons that will make the water smell like sulfur. The first, is what most people have already explained, that there is naturally occuring sulfur in the well and it just comes with the water. This is harmless and probably wouldn't bother thei fish at all. The second kind comes from a bacteria that harbors in wells and hot water heaters, this is an unknown as to whether it will harm the fish or not. I would recommend getting your water tested, just to be sure.

well i filled a 5 gallon tank up with that water and used some seachem prime and started running a filter in it. i put a fish in it lastnight and he is still living at this moment. i am going to wait a few days and see what happens

well the fish that i put in my 5 gallon tanked lived to i did a 10 gallon water change on my 29 gallon fry tank and a 15 gallon water change on my 55 gallon tank. we will see how everything goes. i do not have the nasty smell of sulfer anymore i just used a fog nozzle when i put the water in.
