Hey all... So I picked this little one up at a LFS and they said it came in as a green texas. I didn't buy it and the LFS guy didn't really either. Maybe part of it is texas. I think it looks like it is crossed with a flowerhorn of some kind. Let me know your thoughts. It is really turning into a pretty fish though. I believe it to be a female. Lately it looks like it is trying to mate with my texas which i am not so sure I like since it is a display tank, but I may give them their own space in another aquarium should I be able to. Could be fun! Let me know your thoughts.

Looks like a Carpintis, but the flowerline isnt natural to a Carpintis.
I dont think its possible to know what strain of FH it came from being that young, But its definatly a hybrid.
I would think female too with that body shape, But cant say for sure due to poor quality pictures.

I know the pics aren't good, sorry. I took em with my phone as I couldn't find my camera. I found my camera though finally so I will try and get some better shots. This hybrid and the texas in my tank both look like they have dropped their tubes to lay and fertilize eggs. They have been digging different holes all around the tank. Her tube is fairly wide looking which again makes me assume female.

look like a red Texas cichlid.

It's interesting that you say that, cause the LFS employee said that is what they ordered. Red texas. But they got these instead. When he called back to the shipper and asked about it they told him they sent green texas.

I bought the same looking fish recently from a LFS and they had it listed aslo as a gren texas. I know that's a real crappy picture but the marking look to be the same.

That does look about identical. Interesting.... Great looking fish though, definitely!

It's a female red texas it's just not red. It could fade to red later though.

THAT WOULD BE SUPER AWESOME!!! Well now I have to hang on to it! I told my wife if she starts getting beat up ever or they do mate we will probably set up her own tank. Oh how great it would be to have a red tex!!!
