Wow. Thanks for the info. Is it difficulty breeding, or giving birth, that keeps the price of hystrix up? You'd think as the smallest they'd be the easiest to reproduce on a mass scale.

Wild caught hystrix are rare these days, hence the higher price.
Not many people keep hystrix, or keep them long enough to breed. IME they are slow growers, have a longer gestation time, and take longer to mature than other species of Rays.

Interesting thread.

I have one very good size girl maybe 15" disc (home bred), the others are much much smaller. On average my smaller girls both currently gravid are approx 11" disc, the male is 7".

I know I'm a bit biased but I always have to say it...HYSTRIX ARE JUST "AWESOME" RAYS TO KEEP.
