With Geosynchronous orbit youre still limited to the field of view of the satelite anyhow. still cant have its use wherever you want it
thats why i would place many there. As i said it would cover pretty much the entire earth.
geosynchronous orbit can only happen along the major orbital plane of the earth along the direction of orbit. It would be able to cover the equator up to the majority of north america, and south down to the majority of africa/south america, but the areas above and below that band would be out of range regardless of the number of satelites. For those regions mobile lasers would be the only way to go
Another consideration is that since lasers are focuse, you would need a variable aperture/lens in order to focus targets of different distances. Do-able but each target would need to be re-calibrated for, which in that order of size could take hours. A lot of planning and time would have to go in before firing. Plus you wouldnt know if youre calibrated properly until you fire the thing. Could wipe out an unintended target before you realize an alignment issue has occured. And trust me, they occur

I think that anti-terrorism starts by not talking about ideas of weapons over a computer forum. Not only can anyone look at it but its pointing out you location. Idea start by getting away from the grid itself
