That's crazy. Never had problems mixing smalls ones with my large ones.. Thats some crazy stuff. I guess Your IT must've hated that NTT so much.

I'm not the OP

How could he have know better? Big dats never eat small dats no matter the size differnce? I've read in the dat forum of 12"+ dats being kept with 1-2"dats with no problems at all. Only time a big dat ever ate a smaller dat was if it missed at a food/tankmate nearby. So don't go telling someoe they should know better with the way you post :screwy:
i think HAO is right why would you mix something 1'' with something thats 7 times its size and is a predator, mollies will even eat young here and there. basically i wouldn't do it, tough loss though, buy a bigger one so that wont happen i think nate from massive aggression has some :grinno:, and if it did work for other people it doesn't mean it will work for you

A hard lesson learned. I would never keep a tiny fish I wanted to live with a much larger predatory fish that "should" leave it alone.

In the end, food is food, and the smaller fish is always at risk until it gets larger.

There are so many tales of fish combos that "should have" worked yet failed in every fish forum I've been part of that I know caution is the better path to follow.

Don't let the loss deter you from getting a new dat of any size. Just house any smaller ones differently this time.

It's not like the big indo was trying to eat the little guy...They were hunting after the same fish and the little 1 got caught in the mouth...I dont think the IT meant to eat the thinbar...I have kept little thinbars with big indo's in the past with no problems..This was just a mistaken identity..The IT thought he caught the convict..He did but also took the thinbar down too..
I am by no means an inexperienced tiger keeper...This was just a mishap, that rarely if ever happens..

Whats with the flames?? As far as I know this has never happened b4..I have 10 IT's and now 8 NTT's and the IT's are all much bigger than any of my Ntt's..They never show aggression towards each other. My biggest IT is about 9"-10" and he never even looked at the little thinbar like it was food..
No fish in my tank has ever showed aggression towards the little thinbar..he just got caught in the crossfire..
Sh*t happens..

Sorry for your loss tigerfish. this is the first and hopefully the last time I hear about a bigger tiger eating a smaller one.
It's very unlikely to happen, a freak occurrance, IMO.
There are many members here that r experienced in keeping tigers, who have more than often posted saying small dats can be kept with bigger ones. This is still the case I beleive....
