Bought 4 small JD yesterday. They are around 1" and are in a 4x1x1' / 125x30x30cm.
Im thinking of putting gravel and plants in with them, similar as i did with my Jaguar tank, which is in the same rack.

Will try to get a breeding pair out of them but i have no idea on the sex at the moment, isnt it too early to tell?

To tell the sex of your JDs, females have a lot of blue on the cheeks while males do not. I'm not sure when they start to show this, but I've seen females as small as 2.5" showing blue.

i waited until the females showed the color on the gills before I bought the females for my tanks. The females showed color at about 2 inches, but also it didnt help that gravel was light and the fish were very faded in color.
