My Jaguar might have hole in the Head Disease. It has developed a pin size hole above it's eyes. What should I do? Has anyone had success in getting rid of this problem?

There is an incredible amount of literature throughout this site pertaining to HITH. I would suggest researching.

One thing you can do is keep up on aggressive water changes and provide excellent food source for your jag. Give him/her a good staple pellet food to start and make sure water is clean. If you have found something small, it is possible to reverse/heal the damage.

If you could post a picture it would be helpful in trying to identify the problem. There are several treatments, in the mean time check your water parameters get a test kit if you don't have one ammonia, nitrite, nitrate ect. What type of filtration are you using? How often do you clean it? What temp is the tank set at? What size is the tank, what else is in there? When was the last water change and how much was it (%)? You could do a 50% water change after you test. Clean water is the best prevention.

My water levels parameters look good. I do 30% water changes every two weeks. My tank size is 120 gallons and I have two canister filters running. a 350 and 450 fluva canister filters. The filters haven't been cleaned for about 3 months. When should these filters be cleaned? When should I replace the media? I was under the impression that they needed to be replaced every 6 months or so. Thanks for any help

The filtration is good, you should clean one filter every month alternating cleanings every other other month, 6 months between cleanning is too long and just courting trouble. Don't use carbon it's not nessary unless your trying to remove meds and then only for a couple for days. You should do weekly water changes 30% is ok 50% is better. The pic is not clear enough to see what's going on. But weekly water changes will help and clean one of those filters ASAP. Gravel vac every time you do a water change to keep the substrate clean of debris and uneaten food. You could bump the temp up a little 80-82 is good. Nothing is better than clean water and a clean environment to keep fish as healthy as possable. I hope this was helpful as I could not see enough to determine with any accuracy weather or not there is any sign of HITH starting.

I have had success in controlling HITH with frequent 50% water changes (every 4 or 5 days) and salt - 1tbl per 5 Gallons. I had one cichlid with severe HITH that looks much better.. not cured though. Seems to be in remission.

Good... I'm glad to her that HITH is reversible. My Red Devil/Midas started getting HITH and I was worried that it was permanent. Its not bad but I would still prefer that it healed up and went back to normal. My parameters are better now.

Are you sure it's HITH? Large cichlids have all sorts of sensory pores that become more visible as the fish grows larger.

Check some of Aquamojo's close-up pics for an idea of what I'm talking about.
