My jaguar couple just spawned today. It was the quickest thing ever, just last week they were at each others throat (and not in the cute mating way). Just 2 days ago they started digging their pits and finaly the female dropped her eggs! I went up to the glass just to look and she flared her gills. Here is a pic of the female before she spawned. The male is shy when it comes to photos so ill try and get a good one of him and one of the eggs as soon as one of them moves away from the nest.

Congrats.

Those Jags look pretty small. How big are they? How big do they need to be before they can spawn? Mine is close to 6" and I thought he was still a baby, maybe not.

Thanks and yeah there pretty small but not much smaller than your guy. My male is about 6-7 inches (the pic is far to prevent glare and reflection) and the femal is about 5.5 and shorter. The pics i have of them arent very good sorry guys. My texas and red terror arent shy but these guys are when it comes to having their photo taken

Thanks, the eggs havent hatched yet should be any minute now. Ill get pics when they hatch i hope this goes better than when my mayan and texas mated.

I want some baby jags!!! :) my LFS has a million of them...

Congrats on your jags spawning out. Have the eggs hatched yet?

I have a two spawning pairs of jags. The productive pair have spawned 6 times since February. The latest batch of fry hatched last Monday. There are about at least 600 little buggers swimming around with their parents. I took them about 3 to 4 days to digest their yolk sacks before swimming on up from the gravel. I now have them feeding on Hikari First Bites food. I try to use this fine food before switching on over to frozen cubes of daphnia and crushed cichlid flake food. The jag parents were tearing it up today, splashing and flaring like you wouldn't believe anytime I got close to the tank.

I have three other batches of fry from a few months back. They are eating me out of house and home. The one batch has about 550 fry (1 - 1.5 inchers) that go off on the cubes of frozen blood worms.

My other pair a jags likes to spawn every three weeks or so. The male loves to eat the eggs. He is one crazy jag. He was in a tank with two females that he has spawned with. It is kind of wild how he takes turns with his girls. He decided to beat the hell out of the larger female the other night. Enough of a beat down that I decided to take her out and toss her in the oscar tank. The oscars like their new tank mate.

To make a long post a little shorter. Jags are pretty sweet. Good luck with your jags.

I too love my jags. I have a 12" male that needs a mate.
However, until I find a large female for him I'll just wait for some of
my grow-outs to mature. I have 8 - 3-5" jags living with 4 Dovii, 2 Buttikoferi
and 1 Midas. All are between 3-5.5". After a 50% waterchange, I left for the ACA's
and returned to find my jags (2 of the smaller) had paired off and spawned. They have
taken control of 25% of the tank: chasing off any and all trespassers.
You gotta love this hobby/ job.
