Hey everyone, been a while since ive had anything worthy of posting but i just noticed that 2 of my Jags laid eggs, probably about 300 of them. i never had any luck breeding anything except convicts so i was looking for some advice/tips.

ive been lucky enough to peacefully keep more fish then recommended in my tank, but i assume that the peace treaty between everyone is soon to be over. im looking at setting up a second tank for my other fish to move into.

my camera is dead, but later tonight ill post pics of the parents and eggs.

thanks for looking and any help would be cool

congrats bro its gud u decided to setup 2 nd tank for others

Lots of eggs.. 2 females...?? Congradulations

hard to get them both in one shot, but those are the 2 that are always together and guarding the eggs. some of the eggs look white (almost like those stupid lil styrofoam balls)

they are already very defensive and chase away anyone who goes near them. ill take pics every few days and see what happens

more of the eggs are turning white... i assume that means those are bad eggs or unfertilized? is that a bad sign that this batch might be wasted?
thanks

yes,if many are white, then they are not fertilized.but if they are a pair, they should get it right next time, some cichlids pairs take even longer.if you get free swimmers, don't remove all of them, the parents will do a good job, also it's important for their learning to raise/defend.tankmates if left with them might get killed

Are you sure you have a male and female? Sometimes two males or two females will pair and the female will lay eggs but they go unfertilized because there is no male. Hope some hatch out for you!
