when he says near the filter I think he means the gap between the lids and the filter. I've had my fair share of fish jump through the opening and through the lids too. I remember when my 13" midas jumped out of the tank he took the lid with him.

if thats the case, then they sell the little plastic strips that go in this area. they cost a few bucks for a long piece. of you could put any piece of plastic..
Yea either get lids or the little piece of plastic that goes on glass hinged tops. The plastic also prevents evaporation.
and if it's a big fish, set something with a little weight on the top of the hood... (make sure it isnt something you dont want spilled, the fish may still try!)
