my male 2 years old. taken 3 weeks ago.

bad pic but female 2 weeks after spawning.

more i look you may be right mike, any chance there is convict in that fish?

Very nice male Pops, and I have no clue if it is a hybrid. I didn't notice anything that would make me think so, but I've only been doing this cichlid thing for about a year. What make you think it could be a hybrid?

if a male that old still showing allot of stripping, males tend to loose that and go full color. again may just still be young. females start spawning at 6 to 8 months, males really do not come into there full tell second year as far as coloring goes. but? no mate present neither well really fully color up. hard call,, eather way great looking fish and tank looks clean. :headbang2

Thanks you for the info. I am definitely soaking it all in and trying to be the best at this that I can be with my limited budget. The tank is a 125 with a DIY stand that I made and I'm using an old school HOB Penguin 330 on top with a API XP XL canister as well. My wife is a only tolerant of this new hobby, so if I'm gonna do it then it needs to look good to keep her happy. I would anyways, because I love my fish, but a little extra incentive doesn't hurt.

I also have a 55 gallon setup in my boys' bedroom with a divider in between a Synspilum and RTM. I plan on moving the Vieja to the big tank when it's big enough and probably using the 55 as a permanent home for the Parachromis.

its all about the water changes and tank/filter maintenance and what you feed them. only cost is water bill and food. keep the water pristine, and that does not mean crystal clear water, that means water changes according to what schedule your water test tells you need to be doing according to nitrate creep and your fish will flourish. Feeding the the JD freeze dried jumbo krill soaked in boyds vita-chem will color it up a bit. least in my experience. but by no means replacement for good quality pellets.

Rehome the parachromis. That 55 isn't big enough for it. A female rtm needs minimum 75 gallon and males 125.
