well IMO your half right, males are bigger yes but they are also normally the redder of the 2 with the female being darker.

That's not been my experience, so we shall have to agree to disagree.

Congrats on the spawn! If you keep the fry with the parents, they won't spawn again until the fry are removed...a good thing if you don't want a million jewelies. If you remove the fry, they will spawn again soon.

As for sex, the males are always larger, and the females redder. So that's dad in the first pic and mom in the 2nd.

You are correct, these two had only been together a week before they spawned. I'm going to move them to their own tank soon, I'm removing the fry today after I shuffle some fish around in the tanks I currently have running.

I actually took the fry out night before last. They didn't eat a single one and took over 2/3 of my 125 protecting them, GREAT parents!

Just took the fry out 2 days ago, and guess what I just found 10 minutes ago..........................yup, another spawn

Looks like I have quite the prolific pair here!

they usually spawn 3 or 4 times in a row befor they have a break! this is normal!usually youll get 3 to 4 spawns in a month depending on when u remove the fry

Told ya! The only method of birth control I've found for these guys is to leave the fry with the parents. I've got a pair hanging out with their 2+ month old fry, with zero problems.
