My kels

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Struggling to keep my nitrite levels at zero so need to upgrade my grow out ASAP. Planning on turning this old 5ft aquarium into they new grow out by renewing the silicone and removing the 3D backround and just painting it black keeping it a bare tank. No algae tho cigars cigars Tony A. Tony A.
Plan on buying a used smaller tank shortly to plumb underneath and setup as a k1 sump.

richyrich richyrich nitrites are very toxic to fish make sure you add prime to detoxify it every 48hr, sounds like your filtration needs some upgrading K1 reactor is definitely the way to go it can handle some serious bio loads and all you would need to do is adjust water change schedule or add a auto drip. What is your current filtration set up?

Algae all the way ;), let it grow :p

Btw K1 reactors take a while to seed at least in my experience so keep that in mind when you upgrade

The current filtration is pants, a small external and two small internals but the tank is also small. in order to keep my perameters tidy I’m having to do water changes regularly like every two three days and hold back on feedings which is why I’m changing soon, I underestimated seeding time on k1 previously which combined with dodgy heater killed my last bass when I was converting my sump on the larger aquarium.
But since then I’ve had a pair of umbee’s in there for some time now and am extremely happy with k1 sump as when they have fry they make hell of a mess with food and I never have a spike and perameters on that tank always read zero with one 50% water change a week.
My plan for the upgrade is k1 sump and 2 air powered sponge filters inside
Which are currently maturing in my existing aquarium which will hopefully reduce seeding time.
Thanks for the heads up.
