I picked up two L200's a few days ago but I don't think they're eating besides seeing them rasp the bio film off the glass at night.

I've been offering algae wafers and cucumber and zucchini every night, but they seem to be too scared of the bichirs and cichlids in the tank, to go after the food.

Should I seperate them into a 10g to get them eating, then try them in the big tank later?

TIA

Well... sometimes it can take a week or so to get them eating... they are adjusting. I wouldn't be too worried yet, just keep trying. They will also probably prefer meaty foods too, so try things like prawn pieces and bloodworms. Shame the bichirs will probably be after these too. Bichirs and plecos don't often make a good mix...

Yeah I guess I just expected them to be okay with being swarmed by weird fish they've probably never seen before

It's been a while since I've had a fish that took more than a day to start eating.

The tank gets several feedings of market shrimp per day and when I had my big royal it would easily get it's share, though he was one tough Lori and would beat and spike my bichirs so that they would get away from his claim of the shrimp.

Thanks for the help Davo.

My L200 goes crazp over shrimp that I chop up for the Dats.

Well the L200, Baryancistrus or Hemiancistrus can be fed shrimp fine... not royals though, they are basically strict veggies... too much protein is not good for them... even though they like it like sweets.

One of them decided to setup camp under the driftwood where a lot of the polys hangout, the other is hiding behind a rena intake tube.

The one under the driftwood seems very comfortable with the bichirs today, and it is actively rasping the driftwood right now, and I bet this one will acclimate much faster since it's used to the bichirs by now.

I hope the other decides to move to the big hole in one of the pices of wood.

Wow, good to know. I was giving him a high protein diet towards the end because my RTGG would eat all the romaine before he could get to it. No wonder he was so fat when I sold him, I feel bad now. :(

I'd avoid shrimp. Stick to high percentage spirulina wafers. The HBH wafers are the best.

Why would you avoid shrimp?

I plan on making spirulina wafers as much of their diet as possible, but avoiding shrimp in my tank is impossible.

Shrimp causes many problems with the L200s, and will quickly dull their colors. One of the biggest problems, is the shell.
