The common house gecko usually sold as feeders in NY are underrated great active geckos.

You could set up a nice terrarium in a 20 high and for 20 long since you rather not do snakes ocellated skink (pair) are neat or sandfish

crestys are fun i haz alot of them like 14 babies (waiting for them to mature before i start to sell them) but dude frog wise get a tomatoe they are awesome i had one it got impacted tho which sucked i recommend them tho

I have never seen a cresty other than pics, The pet stores I have gone to seem to have everything but crestys yet they seem the most popular geckos in the market.

Ok well the girlfriend changed her mind a little bit. she will allow a snake but if cant be something that exceeds 5 feet. what snakes could this be. i was thinking about a ball python or something

i would go with a crested or maybe even a gargoyle gecko. ball bythons are cool but again you will only get a couple yrs out of a 20 long with a ball python.
