Finally got around to fencing in the entire back yard so in a month when these guys are out of the brooder they can roam free. As long as they don't get eaten by the dog...

The water dish needs some work. They can't keep getting into it as they don't have adult feathering yet and can get cold.

For size reference that's a 12" pie pan.

They're feeding on stater food, which is 22-24% protein, non-medicated. After a couple weeks I'll switch to grower which is 18-20% protein, then long term is 16-18% protein feed.

I've never owned birds before, but hopefully did the correct research.

Nice!
I want to get a few ducks but dont have the space right now.
Keep us updated.

I WANT THEM!!!!!! My brother is obsessed with ducks and wants to raise some ducklings. Are they regular mallards? I'm looking forward to seeing how this goes for you.

I'm sculpting a duckling at this very moment, and it looks just like these fluff balls right now!

my old ladies mom had some ducks for awhile, i thought they were so cool, but they are damn messy. i wanted to bring em home, but no such luck. watch out for coyotes, they love fowl. coyotes got a huge turkey and a bunch of chickens from the mom in laws.

They're Rouens, which are domesticated mallards. Same coloration as the wild type, they just weigh almost twice as much, and hence, don't fly well. Wild mallard ducks weigh in around 6-8lbs, these can easily go 10-12lbs.

I'm working on procuring some duck diapers, so they can roam the house.

We just finished a 6' fence around the backyard, so hopefully no wildlife tries to eat them. They're in my bedroom currently, till they go outside in a month.

The next few weeks I'll be handling them a lot and getting them imprinted on me, as they're going to wind up as pets. Who knows, maybe I'll get some eggs from them but that's not my real goal.
