My latest update of my 1400 gallon setup

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Speechless and absolutely breathtaking. I have a 550 gallon but yours looks like an ocean. What is your filtration setup and how much and how frequent are your water changes.
What do you feed your wet pets and what heaters do you use

I have multiple forms of filtration. First I have 2 ehiem 2262s that dump into a wet/dry tower that dumps into a 110 gallon "dump" sump. Then I also have a laguna 4280 that runs into a trickle tower that is setup strictly as mechanical.
I do a 40-60% wc every 7-10 days as a minimum. Often I'll do that and if I know I will be sitting in front of the tank for a while I will do a 30% change or so. I feed mostly NLS but I have recently began feeding some southern delight as I can get it in bulk as well but at a cheaper price so I supplement with that to lighten the costs. I know I could feed an aquaculture pellet and cheapen it far more but I can't bring myself to it. The southern delight is a far better pellet now than it use to be and although the quality certainly doesn't match NLS, it's still acceptable in my eyes. I also occasionally feed tilapia or red wrigglers as a treat.
For heat I have 6 jäger 300. I will upgrade soon to a 1000 watt titanium heater w/ a controller. But this summer my tank room has stayed at around 76-78 degrees so I don't have to heat it very much. My temp is a steady 82 degrees and the heaters don't run often at all once the water is up to temp after a waterchange. The concrete tank does an incredible job keeping the temperature stabile.

Looking good trace. Is there a tank build thread somewhere? I'm assuming you built this tank right?

It's on here somewhere but for the life of me I cannot find it with the app and my time is short this morning. Here is a video I made overviewing the build.

How is your Diesel's mouth?

Sad news on that front. About a month ago I went to do a water change and all seemed normal. I turned off the power supply to the tank, drained it and started refilling. When the tank was topped off I turned the power back on and went to turn off the water which has a brass valve. As soon as I touched it it fried the crap out me. I hurried back in and saw that he had at some point broken the bottom of the jäger heater and it was allowing current into the tank. I hurried and pulled it out after I turned the power back off and replace the heater with a new one. I watched him for about an hour and he seemed normal, still attacking me through the glass and everything. So that night I turned his light out and went to bed. The next morning he was dead in the bottom of the tank:( devastating. I did weigh and measure him at 19 1/8 inches and 3.86 lbs if my memory recalls correctly. R.I.P. Big guy.
