lei are very well mannered compared to jars. Most people have them on community tanks as they get along well with other tank mates. Jars are the bulky aggressive cousins that are left alone and notoriously known as psycho killers - bad reputation but not true from my experience. Lei and jars are said to be not mixed as it'll be havoc - have proven that wrong as I have two jars and one lei in my community tank.

I still plan to add one of each specimen when budget permits bringing the count to 5 for a colony.

looks like your lei has protruding lower jaw

I think you are mistaking a car phone picture and the callus on the lower lip for protrusion. Find a good picture of one and you will see it's barbels are placed differently from the other aros. That may also be part of what you are seeing.

if you compare these 2 pictures you see how yours the lower jaw seems a little over extended or maybe your lei just have an over size callus due to excessive rubbing. Picture is courtesy of jlnguyen74.
