it's not even sand..it's crushed walnut shells, which is even worse.

I was wondering if it was that but it almost looked too small to be crushed walnut. I think you're right though.

Agreed, and most caresheets recommend no crushed walnut shells. Guess if he would have researched he would have read about it. :screwy:

dude you coming on to all my threads and trying to start and arguement...the care sheets i read said nothing bad about walnut shells.

You cannot blame some of us for being pissy at you, you have given us the wrong impression at times. If the care sheets you read said nothing, you have not read much. I mean if the rest of us know, why should you not know? Care sheets are never a definite source, if one care sheet says don't do something, go google for another, and check again. So anyway, if you want a natural cage, look up vicious fish thread, lovely cage build there, but ONLY FOR ADULT LEOs, period. For anything under the category of adult (its quite obvious), there should be no usage of any particulate matter, regardless of whether it is crushed shell, corn cob, play sand, calci-sand, excavator clay, just to name a few. Acceptable substrates at this point are A4 paper without print, unless you can guarantee them dry, unprinted newspaper, paper towels ETC.

Oh yes, when they grow up you can use play sand, and go figure a way to prevent any chances of accidental ingestion.

ok yea i have probebly given you all the wrong impression. ive done my reserch and i dont rememeber reading anything about shells. but thats over. ive got paper towels for about another year then im moving on to play sand. the smallest size i can find. theyre both eating great and loving meal worms. do they look skinny or are they good?

They need some extra weight. The tail represents their amount of reserve fat, so get it up to better amounts.
