Dont kno if someone already said this but i think if your gonna make medical marijuana legal then you should at least make some illegal species of fish ok to own with a permit. not that i have anything against medical marijuana just for the record

what is with the illeagle fish popularity..... if pirahna were legal i bet demand wouldnt be nearly as high.... snaping turtles ... what could be uglier and less personable in the turtle world.... snakeheads wow theyre still in the tank untill u throw something in.... what is with people why cant we all stick to fish that are legal and keep fishkeeping out of jail.... i agree its stupid to have certain laws here in ny we cant have a turtle under 4 inches.... but we can have anacondas with a permit

Agree.. Most of it is actually hype.. Piranha's blah.. snakeheads for the most part blah.. Most other "illegal" stuff is blah...

I like how everyone starts crying about their rights and civil liberties and freedom when it comes to their illegal fish, or their marijuana, or their guns. Feel free to move somewhere that doesnt regulate what kind of fish you keep, but oh yeah, you cant vote. Yes our fascist government wont let you keep those pirahna, so start a protest! But when Darfour shows up on TV just change the channel.
One of the greatest things that everyone can do to preserve our freedom is follow the law of the land - regardless of wether you believe in it or not. If you strongly disagree and act on it, then dont whine and cry when youre busted.

Yeah I'm allowed to vote.. but when they don't like the outcome they demand a recount due to error.. or they have represenitives from one party at the voting polls to "keep track"... My point: We have alot of freedoms but the U.S. is far from perfect in laws/goverment actions... Offtopic: I don't watch Darfur.. because.. well I don't care... It's not an issue that affects me at home and I've come to realize that we can't meddle in everyones problems outside of the continent. But I will watch people inside the u.s. protesting an issue.

People seem to focus on being caught. Should we not also think about what it means to knowingly break the law? Sure you might have a cover story to get away with it but how can we expect others around us in society to obey the laws when we opt to pick and choose which ones we follow? You are either a law breaker or not, be it keeping piranhas or smoking crack. How can you expect your neighbor to respect your rights and not steal your tools when you are not respecting the laws of the land either? We should be more introspective about law breaking instead of defensive.

Everyone chooses which laws to follow and which to not. Which is why the guy ok with doing 5mph over the posted limit isn't usually ok smuggling 50 kilos from peru.. And why your neighbor is ok with illegal firecrackers on the 4th but not ok with crack selling.. Morals come into play for most logical people when decifering what action they will take.

I would try to get a law passed that ecologic and Wildlife law ignorant people should not be allowed to touch a computer keyboard on an Internet forum, for their own general good, but unfortunately that would go against the First amendment..

Keep in mind you do have freedom of speech but that very same speech is going to be and will be recorded and databased in the general context of wildlife law as it pertains to "hobbyists".. your perceptions and attitudes will be a determining factor in how laws are established or rescinded...

That said you all sounds like a good bunch of you are whiny kids about having your toy taken away and the level that you can be taken serious is about zero.. If anything you are supporting the conclusions and reasons to further restrict this hobby before it does any more harm than it already has.

The problem is.. It's easier to get around a law than to change it.. IMO system is broke.. People like the direct route. People aren't "dumb" so to speak. I could spend years trying(key word) to get a fish legalized or have bob down the street get me one and take my chances.. which sounds like a better option to the busy, risk taking american.. Might sound like a little baby here but if the goverment would realize they could be cashing in on all these fish people are getting illegally, develop some sort of system they'd be alot better off. I know they cash in on fines.. but take into account the large percentage of people who don't get caught, and what permit fees could be.

Most states have permits available for the possession of prohibited or restricted species and the average person can get them in most cases.. Big exceptions being Florida, which will not even allow professional institutions house some species (I.E piranha, Candiru ) and Naturally, you can not as a hobbyist get permits for State or Fed listed Endangered species or Lacey act fish. (I.E. Pallid sturgeon, Asian Aro, Snakehead)

i am a loyal customer of this spot and the owner has got me a few hard to get things, but he didnt keep track of who was going into the back room i noticed a long time ago that too manny people were going into the back and all the locals knew what he had going on. he is a good guy i still go there for everything i need, all the tanks i didnt build came from "pooperway". he makes good money he can afford the fine.
