I'm a 12 year old who dosnt get much money, so i saved up for these 2 $50 light fixtures for my 120gallon tank.
today i was working on the tank and all of a sudden my lights fell in the water!! :eek::eek::irked:. at least they were unplugged! so now one of them is totally ruined and the other dosnt put out the same light as it did before. :( so now $100 is shot!

im depressed......:confused::confused::confused:

how long did you let them dry before you tried them?

My lighting hood has been through hell and back. Crashed to the floor a couple times, fell in the tank and shattered the bulb. Im very clumsy around my tank haha. I just let it dry, and a new bulb, and it works, even though the switch is broken. Lights are very simple, maybee you can dissasemble, let dry, and see what shorted out.

If this was to happen to me I'd let the light dry for 4-5days minimum before plugging it in.

thats what i was getting at. I've done this to a couple lite fixtures, none of which where broke. Lights dont have circuit boards, displays, batteries...and therfore when they are dropped in the water (unplugged) as long as they are dried proper before plugging in they should work.

i would suggest giving them a rinse in de-ionised water as most of the problems with electrical items not working after falling in water is due to mineral build up when they are dried. it may or may not work but as they are already wet, and most likely knackered anyway, its worth a go in my opinion. leave the working one alone though.
i used this on many mobile phones that went in the washer or toilet and i used to use it on multi-million pound avionics equipment, circuit boards & components, that had a case leak and got soaked in-flight by rain.
de-ionised aka de-mineralised water has no dissolved minerals or other impurities so a rinse to get out the minerals from tank water and then let it dry with almost zero deposits.
also, let it dry naturally without excessive heat from a heat source as this can warp components.
sources are reverse osmosis water or go to an auto shop and buy it relatively cheap.
