Milky Way Galaxy,
Hey guys so am going to try something no one has really tired /documented very well. Am going to run no skimmer on my 15g with 2percs, 1goby,3green chromis, zenya, mushrooms, chaeto & polyps. Feed them Monday weds day Friday (can I feed less?) and do 50% water changes every Saturday. Any suggestions? Anyone else ever tried this before?

May I ask you...what are you experimenting? Sounds like your trying to run with out a filter? I don't under stand lol

Thiers a few things I can point out...that I think is appropiate if I knew exactly what the experiment is.

If the experiment is indeed: Keeping a reef healthy and stable with just water changes.

Then thier are problems:

-Fish becomeing stress with the drastic percentage of water change every week...
-Bio Load Factor
- Corals not receiving any type of flow
...list goes on an on

x2.

A somewhat similar arrangement has been done with extremely limited stocking of fishes, e.g. maybe one or two tiny fishes, a good amount of flow from multiple powerheads, and making sure that the aquarium has been well-established for a while before adding anything beyond live rock (majorly important in these types of systems) and a few cleaner inverts.

Sorry should of made myself more clear I do have a filter running and flow for the corals. I have not yet added the other fish i only have the 2percs and am thinking if keeping it that way as wiggles is right that's over stocking

what species and how many? Cleaner inverts shouldn't put a huge bio load as much as the fish I'd assume btw theres about 30lbs of live rock in there

That size tank, with that stock list, is going to be a ticking time bomb. Even with an oversized skimmer and large fuge I wouldnt try it.

Ive seen natural tanks. My LFS has one, and its a large tank with lots of mature LR and caulerpa. Lots of strong flow and surface agitation, and a lean stocking list.

So you experiment is:

Keeping A Reef Healthy And Stable With Out The Use Of A Protein Skimmer ?

If this is the experiment, disregarding your tank size/bio load. This can be done and has been proven by reef keepers. However do I recommend it? No, because for numerous reasonings such as a protein skimmer helps keep water parameters in check especially nitrates which numerous people like myself have problems with... and also the protein skimmers helps you reduce water change thus making you save money.

Gotta agree with everyone else. Mainly because you just can't do that massive of a water change on a salt aquarium that often, which in turn means not as much stock. The most I've ever tried to keep in a 10 gallon were two damsels and a firefish, all juvies (in terms of a FOWLR), but I don't think I'd try to stock much more than that in a 10 or even a 15 gallon.
