My little Gts growth so far

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thank you for the kind words guys, he is doing really well. He was a tiny bit skittish first few months I had him but last 4 weeks has really come out of his shell. Whenever I'm in the room now watching TV he just sits up that end up the tank tryin to chase me through the glass and impress me haha. Even if he's just had a gut full of food too lol. Thanks once again. Will chuck couple more pics up in another month or so.

What size tank is he in? I really sped up the growth of mine by moving him from a solo 55 to a community 120.
Im not sure but I think a combination of tank size and competition to be the dominant fish sped up the growth.

He's in a 50 gallon it's taller and wider than a 55 just not quite as long it's a wierd size tank actually. Would dearly love to get him into something bigger to really accelerate his growth but just don't have the space ATM unfortunately. Only other tank mates are a Pakistani loach and a bristle nose catfish. Thanks for replying mate.

Another month and another half inch or so growth haha. Worked out that's roughly how much he's been growing per month since I've had him. Getting some good shoulders on him now. Diet has been changed to nls Thera a 1mm as he just abruptly decided he hates hikari bio gold and excel, think he just prefers the smaller sinkers tbh. Wanted to get him off of the high protein diet too now tha he's about 4.5 inches after a couple of recommendations on here. Sorry for crappy pic but it's all I can manage as he loves to show off and go nuts when I'm sitting in front of the tank haha.

Beautiful, I agree that growth speeds up the larger you go; though despite the reputation for slow growth, they still reach a chunky size in the space of 6 months, which I'm willing to say for the majority of us MFK'ers isn't that long relatively.

High quality specimen. Based on the that nice thick caudal band, he's going to be a stunner in a few months.

Thank you both for the comments. As you can see from the first pic I took of him on the first page from back in feb he has grown quite a bit. Doesn't bother me too much about the slowish growth as I know itl be worth it. Plus his personality makes up for it too lol. Think everything just grows slow after keeping oscars when I was younger.

Nice GT mate. I've got one, and its grown faster than I thought it would. I've had it about 4-5 months, and its tripled in size, now around 3-3.5 inches. Unfortunately it appears to be a female, so likely won't grow as big or colourful as yours, but for even though its a female it's colours are better than most GT's around that size that I've seen.

I feed mine Hikari Cichlid Bio-Gold, Hikari Cichlid Gold, Hikari Sinking Wafers, Hikari Mini-Algae Wafers, and Hikari Micro Wafers, along with frozen cichlid food. It loves all the pellets and wafers, but won't touch the frozen food, which is pretty odd.
