Is this normal? My new 5" mala will bang into the lid repeatedly (Maybe 10 times in 5 minutes). It does it only at night, I'm assuming it's looking for a way out. I have the lid weighted down so it can't get out but it's tearing it's nose up pretty badly. Anyway to keep them from doing this, or at least what typically causes them to do this?

could be nervise what kind of decorations does the tank have i would lower the water level a little won't stop it from doing this but will help prevent it from hurting its self as much

does it swim around alot really fast or does it just dart up to the top ?

I have black gravel for the substrate, 2 larger rocks, a piece of drift wood and a fake plant that floats at the top of the tank. I'm trying to keep it simple as my fake plants always end up at the top of the tank.

When it hits the top it will slowly point up and hover for a second then dart upwards.. kind of like it's testing it.

Please post a picture of your tank so I can see what it looks like. Also what size tank is it?Wolfs need at least a 55-75

my gold's did this all the time when i first got them. i just knew the biggest one was going to kill himself. i'd be upstairs in my bedroom and i could hear him bangin' all night. the next morning his nose would be beaten all to hell. they all quit after about 3-5 days though. i lowered the water significantly so he couldn't propel himself into that heavy lid with as much force but he still hit it pretty hard. they are very powerful jumpers. i think they just have to get settled in to their new surroundings.

Could possibly be that as I just moved it to it's new tank this past weekend (50 breeder 48x18x13).

From what I heard it only did it a couple times last night.. maybe it will stop soon.

Going for simplicity on the tank, gave it places to hide but at the same time I wanted a basic look. As you can see the little 5" guy has plenty of room, it's hiding in the front left corner in this pic. Forgive the bad picture it came out dark due to me using very low lighting so I had to tweak the brightness and contrast to see inside of it. Tank is a 50 breeder, 48 long, 18 wide, 13 tall, one AC110 on it and the only other fish in there is a 2.5" female convict.

mabye add some more plants and a hideing spot

mine did this too.

i cranked up an air stone, and lowered the water level to create tons of oxygen. he stopped that night.

lower the water level.
hes probably gettign used to the tank.
he'll stop eventually unless theres something wrong with the water.
