My love for paddles...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
one day my dream tank is hopefully going to happen an i will house all the monster fishes like paddle fishes, tiger muskies, Arapima Gigas. It will be built in a 12w x 30L 7ft high. can any one tell me the gallon that is? how do you measure gallons anyway i just compare it to the tanks i see in the stores.

Paddle fish are a PROTECTED species just remember there is a reason for this. Be responsible its people that keep this type a fish that give aquarists a bad name with the USFWS and this is why they pass more and more laws regulating this hobby and making it difficult for responsible aquarists to collect and transport fish.

nuts! I know i will be a good parent to a paddle fish. a 12x30ft is my dream tank. for now i'll just have large ponds. i understand the legal-ness due to keeping these fishes i want.

just about all the ones i want need, paper work. (although i don't have an big issue on doing so.)

hopefully i can show you guys the end results one day!:)

Just to give you an idea about paddlefish keeping, I've got three in a 225,000 gallon. They're still small. The tank you have planned sounds great, just not for any of the fish you listed (arapaima, paddles or tiger muskies).

If you were to do the legal paper work and then build the tank, I would suggest something round, and in excess of 30'. Depth isn't too important, even at 6-7 feet deep, it will be ok for life. Get the tank up and running for about six months, then get the fish. Also keep in mind you'll be feeding three times daily (if not more). You'll really plug up filters fast with the feeds since (like was said) they are filter feeders for the most part, and require a LOT of food to be broadcast into the water.

how big do these guys get?

id do it, forget what everyone says and just throw him in

heh lol sorry I am sure this was stated on page 2 of this thread but I didn't notice the multiple pages.(gives goofy look, blushes and leaves thread feeling slightly embarassed)
