my lung.

lol..yeah, it wasn't very funny 2 the time though. the floor was soaked and leaked into the basement. good thing my bf noticed cause i didn't and i would have ended up with 80g of water on the floor instead of like 20....

Good thing the tank did not explode and only cracked, your lung looks good....how big is it now....p.s. what type of tank are you planning to give it next?

p.s. how thick was the glass in the tank?
I allways had the feeling lungs could cause stuf like this...I think i'm getting 15 or 19 mm glass in the next tanks...I'm running 12mm now. at a 40 cm water height.

the last tank was thinner than this one..this one is half inch. i'm not sure what tank size to get next. LPS has one for $300 that is 4'X20"x24". i'm thinking of getting that or ordering a 180g for $700 with everything. he is about 21" long now. i think he is going to start growing again though because he's been hungrier lately...

Nice looking lungfish, I've always wanted one of these. Most lungfish tanks I've seen are bare probably because of the whole smashing thing. Sorry about your tank though.

he doesn't even try to move that tree stump thing. i think it's just easier to keep clean if it's empty. hey grif, what do you feed that big fat lung of yours to make him so hefty? i can't wait till he's like 2 1/2 feet long, he'll look so cool.

yes size sure does make them impressive....the reason mine grow this fast?
I actually don't know...because when I started out with my dolloi it was only 18 inch...I used to keep it in soft water (low KH and GH) ...and I use to feed it goldfish and earthworm and chicken...and it would grow real fast....
but now it keep the KH and GH up and only feed it shrimp, tialpia filet, sprot and algae waffers..and it stil grows..it went from 18 inch to 40 inch..

And the one in my avatar (aethiopicus) ...only grew +/- 5 inch in the last few months but it did gain allot of weight...it is on the same diet as my dolloi.

What I think is important...is to leave them alone as much as possible and keep the water clean...I test my water every week. and lately I have been doing aprox 70 to 80% water changes per week. to keep the no3 down. And the KH up.
Maybe this will help......ow and I feed them 2x per day..once in the morning...algae waffers...and once at night...always at the same time and the same place in the tank.

perhaps the old tank didn't have enough "hiding places" for the lung, and thus it feels more secure in this smaller tank?

thanks grif. mine eats mostly shrimp, but he likes pellet food too and algea wafers. worms are his favorite, but i can't find anywhere to buy them now and i moved so i can't get them from outside anymore. i think he likes this tank better because it looks almost built into where it is and the whole thing is like a cave...either way he is eating more and much more active now. i think i'm going to invest in the larger tank for him, even though it will take several months for me to pay for it. he deserves it. (:
