Bummer!

I have a quick question though. Are you on city water?

I think I know what you may be getting at...if what you mean is ( especially this time of year) more chemicals which are harmful to aquarium fish are added to city water supplies....for what its worth...I am in an upstate NY suburb and to my knowledge all my area water is a county supply...i have seen a breakdowm in the past of whats in there but have not looked at it in a while....either way the female jag in the same tank has shown no sign of illness.....thanks for seeking an idea for possible cause.....

Sorry to hear. I know 1 of the juvies u kept from 1 of his spawns with your female ended up being a female but did you end up keeping any males from any of their spawns?

That is sort of what I was thinking. It is more about the gas in the water than chemicals though. I ran into this years ago when I lived outside of Detroit. Sometimes the water would almost look milky with the gas bubbles. Normally Detroit water was pretty good but in the Fall it got funky, to the point of requiring an air stone overnight to clear it up, on top of the usual de-clorinator.

Sometimes a fish will just go south on us but many times there is a reason, we just don`t know what it was. Your fish was in his prime of life and you obviously took great care of him. I am really sorry for your loss.

Sorry to hear about the loss. It is never cool when a prized fish is lost.

Oh man, that sucks. Jags are one of my favorite cichlids. It's never fun losing a fish but when its one of your favorites it just that much worse.

I appreciate that.... I bought powerheads for my 150 120 and 75 to have more water circulation and aeration to help break down chlorine ,gas etc.... Figured it couldn't hurt for the future....
