Most defintely a male RT, no question about that.

Black in dorsal fins has no real bearing with RT's, they fade/peel at different rates, and in different areas. As an example, here's a couple of pics of a 10-11" male from a m/f pair that I once owned.

unlike your male, the texas is unfaded, so there is a chance it is a female

Keep in mind that RT are hybrids.. so the whole black dorsal spot being an indicator of it being a female isn't very accurate.

With RT's, it's not accurate at all.

I would also assume that at the size of the OP's fish he knows what the sex of it is.

Thanks Water, that male looked far more impressive in person, a lot of the color was washed out by the flash in those pics.
