Yeah, get a severum. I have a super red severum in my tank and when guests come over, it's usually the first thing they notice and comment on.

Plus, they're really active fish. They're always begging for food and when I'm working at my desk, he keeps swimming by the tank to see if I'm going to feed him. Mature ones look really cool IMO. I named mine Sunny.

I have festivums, severums, a peacock eel and a firemouth. I like geos and gymnos. I'll have to look up the neons. I could do a Super Red Sev. I have those available to me at 2-3in. The other suggestions seem to not be a great choice for planted tanks but then again neither is the eel. lol. Good suggestions everyone. Any more?

Thought about that too. We have one in our store's planted rainbow display tank so I'm kinda waiting to see if it starts digging up plants.
