Sorry to hear that you're getting out of the hobby.

I myself am a sophomore Environmental Studies major (chosen because it allowed me to focus on fish more in both my studies and outside of the classroom) who is currently jobless, but luckily I stockpiled food and supplies for my fish over the summer while I had a job. Consider seeing if you can maintain some of your fish at your college; they might have a wet lab/aquarium room that might have space for some of them.

I left the hobby when I started college. Then I met a guy sophmore year who had a 65 gallon cichlid aquarium in his dorm! That was it I got a house and bought a 110 and started all over again.

I would point out that staying in the hobby isn't that expensive especially if you have only 1 tank. Getting in is the hard part. Once you have a stable tank you pay 10 dollars a month for electrical and buy food for the year costing only 20 dollars at most. 140 dollars over 12 months is nothing. thats less than one weeks pay at minimum wage.

My fish consume $20 of food every few weeks...

My electric bill is much more.

My last water bill was $400.

Not sure where this $140/year thing comes in.
