Don't jump the gun just yet...

Mite eggs and larvae take about 5-6 weeks to mature to adult size, and washing the cage and its contents sometimes can miss the eggs or larvae. So you wash the tank out, and then bam, a month later you've got more mites.

Without any kind of actual pesticide, it's going to be very difficult to get rid of them.
