Came home half an hour ago to find my mono belly up. Its still breathing but very heavily. It seem to have lost its buoyancy. Netted him out of the 100G and into the 10G quarantine tank. Did a 50% water change, increased temperature, and added salt. He seems to be doing better now. He's right side up but still at the bottom of the tank.

I measured my water parameters on the 100G and they are 0.0.10. I just did a 60% water change on the 100G last Sunday because I didn't have time to do a water change last week. My tank is currently on the pellet training mode. They have not been feed any live foods for 17 days. I've only fed them pellets. Only 1 AT and my managuense are feeding on pellets. Mono has not eaten anything probably in 20 days.

So do you guys have any idea why this happened?

I thought peacock bass is pretty hardy. The guy is about 5" small.

feed the poor guy!!!!!! give him somethin he use to.... training is always good, but starving him for 20 days thats not good at all!! you have to do slow training... its not goin to happen over night bro.... best to feed them live when still @ a size of 6-7 IMO.....

I thought some fish can last up to 2-3 months with no food? I have a couple of NGTs that have not eaten anything for 4 months and they are still doing good. They did not eat live, frozen, or dry foods at all. They have remaned at 2.5-3" small for 4 months.

yea 17 days is a little long when there that young, u shouldnt go more than about 5-6 days when training when they are that small

Man... all that time for nothing... I guess I'll be buying $1 worth of feeders tomorrow...

2-3 months is wrong bro unless its hibernating or sumthin

I tried everything but the NGTs still wouldn't eat. They are nice and stable and skinny too though.

I re-measured the guy and he's more like 6-6.5"

In my opinion any Cichla needs to be fed at least once a week at least ;)

Cichla don't eat like they do in our tanks in the wild.. But They also do not have an issue generally finding a daily meal in the wild... When you see anyone catching them... They are always FAT ;) Meaning they have eating fairly recently... As Cichla bellies shrink quickly when not fed regularly. This is all just my opinion and experience:)

A suggestion for your training... Try 14 days pellets training and then 1 feed live.. This way they may start eating your pellets. Generally that is quite awhile without food.. 7 on 1 live would be better(My opinion).. But this is a highly debatable subject and always find the way that is most comfortable for you...

Sorry for giving my opinion before reading the whole post!! ;) I am obsessed e-tarded with this habit..

Still I would Buy some bloodworms and if they take them then you can stay off the live and when they start lookin sickly drop bloodworms in.. If they do not start eating the blood worms, then give them some live.. But keep up the fight, eventually they will start taking what you are feeding..

Maybe some mysis as well. Krill.. Any non live food they take gets you closer to your final goal ;)
