so where is this red zebra?? all these pics and no pic of the zebra?? unless ofcourse you think the yellow one is a red zebra which it obviously isnt, its kenya, also mbuna require different tank params!! Plus wtf kind of person would want something bad to happen to his fish :screwy::angryfire:screwy:, if you had researched your fish before getting them then you wouldnt have this problem!!!!

if anyone deserves this you do :nutkick:

ok buddy hmmmm tell me about research look up this site

http://www.allcichlids.com/lake_malawi/metriaclima_estherae_red_zebra_cichlid__2.html

tell me what color is that red zebra male

as well ill take a pic of the juvi male who is transformin from blue stripes to turning yellow ill load the pic in a moment

so dont dish me like im a casseroll cause i do my research

now lets see i had them in my 55g with my 8 blue johani with sand an rocks for hiding place and moved them out when they got to agressive for that tank and i assure you that it is a red zebra as the above web site has this to say about color

M. estherae is a very active fish with splendid colors. Interestingly, males aren't usually red as the name suggests, but typically are bright powder blue, and the females a rich orange. Although they have not been confirmed in the wild, orange males are common in the aquarium. Orange males are not the same rich orange color of the females, but rather a lighter orange, with a faint blue cast. Females can not only be orange (or commonly nicknamed "red"), but can also be OB (Orange Blotched).

DID I READ THAT RIGHT " ORANGE MALES ARE COMMON IN THE AQUARIUM"

now why on gods green earth a fish that starts out whitish with blue stripes and turns yellow/orange is called a red zebra i have no idea i have always wondered that at any rate here is my juvi who used to be blue an white but is turning yellow

now how do i know its a red zebra well the breeder i got them from said they were and all websites i have looked at tell me they are so they must be

so please before you hope to make someone look or sound uneducated perhaps you should use the google function and find a good website with pictures i know i did and it only took me 5 seconds :nutkick:

now with moving the little monster from the 55 i had the following options

75g burundi front tank NOT HAPPENING
40g corner fry grow out tank NOT HAPPENING
100g fry grow out with my bleekeri small spot NOT HAPPENING
140g iri shark rehome tank with catfish done as a catfish specific tank
with a 3 inch arrowana who i just got NOT HAPPENING
180g with my 4 oscars, 4 green terror juvi, 2 pacu YEH SEEMS BEST YET
SO THAT IS MY FIRST CHOICE
75g with my 3 christyi and my full grown green terror DONT REALLY WANT
TO CAUSE I THINK MR TERROR WILL KILL HIM BUT MY 2 CHOICE
70g private tank with bonita my zebra tilapia NOT HAPPENING CAUSE IM
PRETTY SURE SHE WILL KILL IT

so since i only have these tanks at my restaurant i chose the 180 cause i thought there is no way this red zebra will muscle the 10 fish in there but since he did after only being in there for 2 weeks , i went to plan b and put him in the 75 and after a day in there he seems to have cooled his jets but if i have to i have four tanks at home i can try him in and another 3 that would kill him

so im sorry to rain on your parade but i do my share of research as to what im doing

This is why african cichlids should be kept with african cichlids. Especially mbuna a little research can go a long way

ok it would seem to me that my red zebra is malawi and my electric blue johani are malawi

so according to MY RESEARCH which by the way shows both are mbuna and how i set the tank up with sand an rocks i should have had no issues mixing 8 johani with 2 red zebra in a 55g
since they are from the same area i even asked some of the local fish guys who come in to look at the tanks what they think and the green light was all around

these two web sites seem to be reliable to me how funny people think that just cause there are issues in tanks that the tank keeper is foolish or uneducated

yet as it is with fish they have their own personalities and saddly this yellow dude is not satisfied no matter the size of the tank he started to do the same thing in the 180 that he was doing in the 55g so as my previous post states what to do when you have a trouble fish make the best move possible with what you have

if i have to ill actually go home an power up a tank just for him and the juvi who is still in my 180

thanks i was told it was a red zebra so i looked the stuff up and everything i found told me that the two could go together and all was good for months in the 55 till about 4 weeks ago when the yellow one started going all tanked out

sorry for seeming so hot but just dont like be told that i dont do research

I understand. This place is a great place for information. Researching is great, but lets all remember like this situation we can be mislead! Lets try to help each. Kenyi are terrible, but it should still work with your fish. However each fish is different.

Most experiences I have had lead me to believe that these fish are evil, but others they work fine for.

yeh im more an more coming to believe this fish is very evil but hes my fish so i gotta set another tank up for him should the 75 not work

darn i have to have another tank up lolololol

Kenyi are evil this I am certain of. Even females can be nasty. I'm not surprised he took over your tank. What you could try and do is add more fish to your 55 and try him in there again. With so few individuals he was able to bully them easily. With more fish he won't be able to target them as easily. I currently have 15 fish (which include red zebras, ice blue zebras, acei and a demasoni). They have plenty of caves and any trouble fish end up back at the petstore.
