I think its a great idea....but its going to be wayyyyyyyyyy over $600. What do you plan om keeping?

I would love to be able to keep an arapimia though if this pond is large enough and it can co-exist with the rest of my stock. I just need to do more research on them and find a place to get one

Hm I figure the only things I'll need to buy are a large liner, a cheap pump, a lot of cinder blocks, the PVC, and a few other things. I'm going with all the cheapest material I can find lol

And I plan on keeping a few silver arowanas, shovelnose catfish, maybe red tailed catfish, clown knife, red belly pacu, pleco, irredesent shark, oscars, and the rest I'm not sure about just yet

You're going to need a monster heater. San Diego has mild winters and they still can't make it without a heater. I'm assuming your pond is outdoor.
Standard EPDM liners are 30' wide. You need approx 40' wide which puts it in the custom size from Firestone. For reference...30'x30' x 20mil is $434 doesn't include shipping or tax. 20mil is the thinest they come. 40 mil is what I like to use. 20 mil recommends the use of underlayment.

Yes i know. They need to be kept at a dead minimum of 65f, absolutely no less than that. I'm working on finding a pool heater but am having a hard time finding something afordable that doesn't eat up a ton of electricity. That's one of my current issues that I'm working hard on solving

If your able to find a part time job that should be able to pay any extra costs the pond may cause to ease your parents. whats the coldest air temps ya get where your at?

Where I am is just 50 miles north of Houston and this year we all got hit badly in America, except hawii lol. Our lowest temp this year was an insane 15f, something not offend seen in Texas. Normally our winters have about a month in the 30s and 40s and the rest isn't too bad. Most of our year is around 70-100, and I figure the water will be much easier to cool than it will be to warm

To bad you aren't in the deep south of Texas.
I would just get a tank less water heater and plumb it into the pond. Have the pond water run through it. But that is exspensive.
Look for one on clearance or a used one that still has some life to it.

Thats the best I can think of for winter use and the most cost effective.

Just out of curiosity, what would happen if the water was about 40-50f for awhile? Would this stress or kill them? Or just slow their movements and cause them to not eat as much and sleep a lot like native species here?

Probably shut down there system, death. Necrocanis, another member here, had a heater go out in his garage on one of is ponds for his large 2 foot plus catfish and most died and he was only able to save one because he got home in time, and that temp was in the 40-50f range. Hopefully Necro will see this thread he is awesome and has great ideas and lots of experience.
