My Monster Pond Project

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yeah it does, but personally Id look into renting some heavy duty digging equiptment, but if you want to do it by hand, good luck, its possible but expect it to take a while.

Of course. I'm thinking it'll be a 3-4 day long job if I'm working on it the majority of the day. I just checked out some prices on new pumps and filters and liners. All together brand new I'm looking at about $800, but with my dad working in real estate and knowing EVERYONE, he's found me an old pool filter, possibly our old pool liner, and the rest isn't too bad. I think this project is definitely looking better and better as time goes on.

Whats wrong with using the old above ground pool that your parents are getting rid of? No to sound like an *** but I would build a littler pond as mentioned earlier since it is your parents house. I mean building a smaller pond will give you good experience for when you have your own place. I am still going to follow this thread if you stick with it. Always love to see people go big and their designs. Good Luck

They aren't getting rid of the pool, just getting a new liner. I wish I could have that pool though lol

And I think I may go smaller when it comes down to actually building it. Because I'm digging it out myself, I'll probably just be winging it on the shape and all lol most likely won't be as big as I plan. But definitely big enough to provide a good home for my fish and that's all that really matters

This is a great idea. Im just nervous about the fish in the 200 gallon they wont be able to stay in that tank forever.

I'm not. This may sound weird, but if it comes down to it and the pond isn't ready yet, I have a 7x7x2.5 hottub with clean fresh rain water in it that we haven't used in years. There's algea and small water bugs in it so it's safe, so I'll put a few of the fish in there for about a month or so if I absolutely have to. Hopefully this is all times correctly though.

And yes wiggles I know, thats why I've decided to just wing it lol it won't be any set shape or size, just big and natural.

For a little while but not for too long. My dad is planning on fixing the heating element in it this summer so i won't be able to use it long. Plus we have tons of cats who would love an easy meal right out of that thing
