DOES NO1 ELSE THINK IT WILL HEAT UP REALLY QUICKLY DURING HOT DAYS AND BOIL ANY LIVING ORGANISMS

^^left capslock on, to lazy to re-type^^

I wouldn't worry about either of those things. The plants will keep it cool. Also you shouldn't need a mesh cover. I don't think anything is going to fish something that small out of it.

if you're worried about cooling it, then just dig a pit next to the pond about 4'x2'x3~6'(LxWxD) and put in several feet of 1/2" or 3/4" PVC pipe running back and forth in the hole and have a powerhead pumping water throught it, the water will be cooled down to the temp. underground(almost always the same year round) and keep the pond cool.

Y'all really got to look at the locations ... not much chance of boiling off there..

thanks guys,
I dont worry about evaporation. it stays cool as its in the shade of the house and theres a 7ft high hedge to the right of it.
Fish have done fine in it before. i have kept a fighter in it previously and it did great. Never had to feed it cause of the mozzies
