You can use a hose in winter, you just have to wait until spring for the water to come out.

thats what i thought i think im going to cover them up with some big rocks they come in a bag like gravel but they are about the size of golf balls

Home Depot sells bags of gravel cheap! Wash the heck out of it though, lots of sediment.
