my new 14inch fire eel ??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
mine only ate blodworms until 12"(ish), then he would only eat worms/nightcrawlers until around 18". Now he will only eat fresh shrimp, he eats 2 a day. If i buy cheap frozen shrimp he bites it and then spits it back out. Luckily I get fresh gulf shrimp at a cheaper price...so its actually cheaper in the long run than any other fish food. Basicy just keep trying new foods, but as long as you eel is eating you will be fine. And as far as growth rate, mine is still hitting a little over an inch a month @ 19-20"

congrats on the new fish, future fishy presents, and getting your eel to eat black worms. I buy both woms and nightcrawlers from the walmart fishing section. An I have been doing this for years with no issues.

Thank you fir your help I'm happy now can you post pics of your fire eel???

I buy my Nightcrawlers at Cabelas at 3.50$ per 2 doz... atm my M dayi will eat the worms and frozen krill ( which they get more as a treat or when I run outta worms and haven't had a chance to go get more) like it's going outta style...I've owned a fair amount of spineys over the years. and by far nightcrawlers ime have been the best food if you can find them. my current spineys have gone from 4" to approx 14" in this past spring/summer/fall... I expect they'll both hit 18" by next Feb/March. I lost my fires ( to an unfortunate accident i guess is the best short explination) at about 1.5yrs.. and 20"+

I have 3feet fire eel, that will eat nothing but ghost shrimp, i tried feeding those frozen market shrimp, but it just wouldn't eat , no matter what. i think most people face the same problems when it comes to market shrimp, polly the eel need a little training with market shrimp. What my friend taught me , throw in market shrimp and the ghost shrimp together, ratio maybe 3:1.
The ghost shrimps will eat the market shrimp and when the eel eats the ghost shrimp, theres a chance it will eat the market shrimp together with it. I haven managed to do it, im still trying. Worth a try though.
